Trevor Lloyd Town have made what manager Trevor Lloyd has described as a 'massive signing'. With only a couple of days left until the Blueboys kick-off their South Midlands Premier Division campaign, boss Lloyd has swooped to sign former Stoke City starlet Darren Brunt. The 19-year-old arrives after being released by the Premier League side, and represents a coup in the transfer market for Lloyd. Brunt's goalscoring form included hitting the net against Manchester United's talented Under-18 side which then propelled him into the Potters' reserve side. After coming up against the likes of Brazil International Gilberto, Portugal centre-half Richardo Rocha and England Under-21 star John Bostock last season, the young hitman was surprisingly released by the Staffordshire club. He is expected to be available for the opening game of Hatfield's Premier Division campaign against Chalfont St Peter.

Soccer Club Swap Shop

Finally the wait is over and the club has discovered how well it has done in the 2008/09 Programme of the Year Awards.

After a very exciting reading of the certificate, which claimed that Hatfield Town had finished 77th Nationally and 1st in Division, it was discovered that there had been an administrative error and the awards as posted on the Soccer Club Swap Shop website confirmed that Town had not been as successful as first thought. Hatfield finished 3rd behind Hoddesdon Town and Royston Town in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One awards and 73rd Nationally.

Spartan south Midlands League LogoFinally, the wait is over and it is now official. The Molten Spartan South Midlands League posted their new 2009/10 season constitution on their website today, putting an end to all speculation and confirming that Hatfield Town had been successful in obtaining promotion to the Premier Division.

It is still to be confirmed by the Spartan South Midlands League as to how the Reserve section is to be organised. It is still to be decided whether to split the competing clubs into a non-regionalised Division One and Division Two, or a regionalised Reserve Division East and Reserve Division West.

Menu - Top of Page29th May 2009 - Lloyd Pledges Future To The Club

Trevor LloydTrevor Lloyd will still be Hatfield Town manager no matter what division the team are playing in next season. After weeks of long and hard thought, Lloyd has committed himself to the club to which he has been a great servant to for many years. The Blueboys are still waiting to find out whether they have achieved promotion to the Premier Division of the Spartan South Midlands league after finishing in third spot in Division One. However, the former Town centre-half has decided that his future remains as boss of the Herns Way-based outfit. He said: "I have made the decision to stay now, no matter which division we are playing in. "I'm not going to lie and say it's been an easy decision to make, I want what's best for the club and would be gutted if we didn't get promoted. But I have been here a while now, and want to see Hatfield push on and move up the leagues and I really hope I can do that." Lloyd was disappointed to see his side finish in third place in the league, and felt the runners-up spot behind Royston Town was well within their grasp. Kings Langley grabbed that placing, although doubts remain as to whether they would be able to take up the option of promotion due to ground-grading. The South Midlands League are still in discussions with the FA as to the exact make-up of the league constitution. Meanwhile Lloyd has revealed that inspirational skipper Martin Standen could be on the verge of playing at a higher league club. Lloyd said; "I said to Martin that if he wants to go play at a higher level then he should do. But he's got to make his mind up. He's got to decide whether he wants to make that break from the squad here. We will still have a strong squad if he decides to leave".

Menu - Top of Page25th December 2008 - Chairman Rates Club's 2008 As A Success

Ted Collie

After treating the 122 people who turned up to watch The Town destroy Arlesey Athletic 4-0 with mince pies and festive cheer, club chairman Ted Collie gave his assessment of the year 2008 and the future.

"If we were offered third place going into Christmas at the beginning of the season we would have taken it," said the Blueboys' supremo. 2008 has been a big success and we feel we as a club are contributing something for the town of Hatfield as it most definitely needs it. Hatfield needs all the good news it can get at the moment, and I feel the success of the football club is doing just that. We will be making up a planning committee within the next four weeks, and we have a very good working relationship with Hatfield Town Council. There haven't been any problems so far, and I feel with the relationship we have with them, any problems that do crop up, we will be able to overcome. A site has already been designated to be the new home of Hatfield Town, which is at Birchwood. We are at the planning permission stage really now, and we have got to get leases sorted amongst other things. It's certainly our main aim to progress on this issue and I'm confident things will begin to take shape."

Ted Collie

Town Chairman Ted Collie has been appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Herts Senior County League.

Collie was elected into the position at a special general meeting on Wednesday 5th November, and prior to that he held the title of Commercial Secretary for the League Committee.

Congratulations Ted, from all at the club.

Menu - Top of Page22nd October 2008 - Town Move Closer To Securing New Ground

Ted Collie

Town Chairman Ted Collie is full of optimism after club officials met with the town council to discuss plans for a new stadium to be built. The club, who currently play at WGC's Herns Way ground, have been in discussions with the council for the past year, and it appears things are heading in a positive direction.

Collie said: "My view is that Hatfield Town Council is doing everything it can do to help us at the moment. I believe we can work together to get plans laid down, and I am quietly confident a decision can be reached at the next meeting on November 19. It has been narrowed down to the Birchwood site, and this proposal will be put to the full council next month."

After a promising start to life in the South Midlands Football League, the prospect of the Blueboys finally having their own base will do a lot to extend the opportunity for long-term development. Town currently sit in fourth position in the table, having won seven of their opening 12 Division One games. And manager Trevor Lloyd believes a permanent new home will add some much-needed stability to the club.

"The meeting was definitely a step in the right direction, and I am pleased it happened," said the former team captain. Ted Collie said to me that it was probably the furthest down the line it has gone, so it's all positive at the moment. I can now tell the players what's happening, and it will hopefully not be a matter that will begin to play on their minds."

Chairman Collie and Lloyd are set to talk to the playing staff to make them aware of the situation. And with a site now put forward, all involved at the club will be hoping at long last a positive decision will be reached, and at last Hatfield Town will have a home.

Menu - Top of Page11th June 2008 - Knebworth Name New Boss - Rumours Quashed

Andy PruttonRumours that First Team Asistant Manager, Andy Prutton was to leave The Town to take charge at Watton Road were quashed with the announcement by acting Knebworth Chairman, Stuart Biddle that former Harpenden Town and Ampthill Town manager, Steve Cornwell is to take over the reigns as K's First Team Manager.

The Knebworth Manager's positon was the main rumour of three that were circulating around the town. With this rumour now firmly quashed, Town can finally put all of this speculation behind them and start building for and focusing on the new season ahead.

Menu - Top of Page23rd May 2008 - Collie Dismisses Prutton Rumours

Andy Prutton

Town Chairman Ted Collie has dismissed rumours that Assistant Manager Andy Prutton is set to leave the club. On the Welwyn Hatfield Times's - Hatfield Town FC fans' forum, one member posted a message saying that Prutton had been having meetings "about the Manager's post" at nearby Knebworth. Another posting stated that it will be either "Knebworth, Cheshunt Reserves or Wormley" that the former Hertford Town boss will head to.

Collie was quick to dismiss any thought of Prutton leaving the club. He said: "It's absolute rubbish in all honesty. There is no truth in it whatsoever. "In fact, I would bet that the only time Andy has been to Knebworth is as part of the match-day team for Hatfield. "I think it's all a bit of a wind up, and when I spoke to Andy he said he had heard nothing about it at all." Prutton was part of the successful management team, along with boss Trevor Lloyd that secured Hatfield Town promotion from the Herts Senior County League Premier Division into the Molten Spartan South Midlands League as Champions.

Collie is adamant that Prutton's focus has already turned to the coming season. "The last I heard from Andy, he was saying how much he is looking forward to next season, and was already planning for the start in the new league," added the Hatfield Town Chairman. "So I think the rumours are totally false, and Andy is perfectly settled at Hatfield."

Menu - Top of Page12th April 2008 - Promotion Secured At Long Last

Dave HewingHatfield Town finally secured promotion to the Spartan South Midlands League with a resounding win at Bushey Rangers. Hertford Heath, the only team capable of depriving Hatfield of a top two finish, slumped to a second defeat within a week, killing off any chance they had. Regardless as to whether Metropolitan Police Bushey win the title or not, they cannot be promoted as their ground does not meet the specified criteria. With only one team being promoted from a top two finish, Town were ecstatic at being the club to progress up the pyramid.
